Risk Management
Providing advice and support on all aspects of corporate risk management.
The Strategy, Performance & Procurement team has the responsibility to ensure the Council manages its risks effectively. It achieves this through its Risk Management process. Risk Management is a broad discipline and covers such areas as business planning, performance management, project management and audit amongst others.
Its key function is to support departments in making the right business decisions, minimising the Council's and Community's exposure to potential hazards and making the most of opportunity and innovation to improve services and protect the public.
The function protects the Council's financial and non-financial interests and promotes the use of risk assessment as a tool to deliver service improvement.
Maintaining a good risk management programme helps to prepare the Council and the Community against the unexpected. It addresses issues such as Business Continuity and Emergency Planning as well as insuring the Council against potential claims.
Departments maintain risk registers that help accelerate the pace of change and maintain improvement. These registers contribute to giving the public assurance that the Council operate a sound system of internal control. Our Annual Assurance Statement includes commentary on the Council's risks and is published annually in the Statement of Accounts.
