First appointments for newly qualified teachers
Why choose Hammersmith and Fulham?
Support for newly qualified teachers includes:
- An induction tutor within school who will act as mentor. They will work with NQTs to devise an action plan based on the career entry profile and early development needs. This will help the self criticism and professional judgement needed as part of the learning process for NQTs to progress against, and meet the core standards.
- Support to help recognise strengths, achievements and areas for development in the first year of teaching. Our schools aim to help teachers work co-operatively and to share good practice, ideas and experience.
- Access to both in-school and LA based training, day conferences and twilight sessions. Opportunities to attend sessions led by leading teachers and practitioners in the LA, including visits to other schools to observe good practice. Reduced timetable of normal teaching duties, half termly review meetings and a termly assessment supported by written reports.
- All these activities are designed to encourage self reflection and to provide access to high quality continuing professional development for all the borough’s beginning teachers.
