Why are some of the jobs advertised on this site only open to council employees?
The London boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster have been working collaboratively for some time now, bringing together many of their services, staff and management teams resulting in more efficient, effective services at reduced costs for the three boroughs' residents. As part of this initiative, for some vacancies that occur, the three boroughs will encourage development or re-deployment opportunities for its own staff first prior to moving to an external advertisement.
Internal development and re-deployment of staff is a key element of the human resource/workforce strategy for most organisations and does not of itself breach any employment law. Indeed, employment law is very clear that any organisation has a duty to mitigate wherever possible any compulsory redundancies as a result of reorganisation or restructure of its workforce.
