The  LBHF Volunteer Work Placement scheme aims to support the needs of unemployed residents.

Volunteers receive practical work experience, training and support towards meeting employment goals.

Introduction to H&F Volunteer Work Placement scheme

We welcome applications from unemployed Hammersmith & Fulham residents who:

  • are in need of basic work experience to improve confidence and motivation

  • need to develop work place skills and experience to enable them to progress onto further training leading towards employment goals

  • have demonstrated a commitment to gaining employment but require practical work experience to compliment training and/or qualifications

  • have recently been made redundant and want to keep experience and skills up to date while applying for new employment

  • are aged 16+ (there is no maximum age limit to participate on the scheme)

Work Placements will last between 4 – 13 weeks

Volunteer working hours are agreed by the placement manager and volunteer, but will be no more than  16 hours per week.

All Volunteers will attend an Induction covering: Introduction to LBHF (services & organisation); Introduction to Local Government; Introduction to Work Placement Scheme – including roles, responsibilities and expectations; H&S; equal opportunities; Individual Learning Plans.

Volunteers will be line managed by a Manager/Supervisor at their placement against the terms and conditions of their Volunteer Agreement.

Individual performance and progression will be reviewed on a regular basis and all actions will be recorded on the volunteers Individual Learning Plan.

The Employment Opportunities Officer will keep all volunteers updated regarding H&F council job vacancies.

"Please note, some Volunteer roles will require that we check the Applicants record with the Criminal Records Bureau ( CRB) before inviting them to participate on our work placement. In these instances, Applicants will be informed in advance that the CRB check must take place."

How to apply

Applicants must live within the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

Role Descriptions for each work placement will be sent to our external partners to promote among their clients.

All applicants should complete the Volunteer Application Form. CV’s will only be accepted if accompanied by a completed Application Form.

Applications will be assessed against the skills and competency requirements as set out in the role description.

Candidates who match the skills/competency requirements for the role and can demonstrate that the work placement for which they are applying can support them to meet their employment or personal goals will be invited to meet with the placement manager and/or Employment Opportunities Officer
