Choosing a care home

Advice on how to choose a residential care home

If you are able to pay for yourself, you can approach residential or nursing homes directly to apply for a place.  Social workers keep a list of registered and approved homes in the area and will be happy to let you have a copy. Each home will provide you with details of charges and conditions.

If we make arrangements for you to move into a home, we will meet with you regularly to discuss your needs.  This will help us each an agreement with you about your future care.  We will look for a home that meets not only your personal care needs but also takes into account your emotional, religious and cultural needs.  We will give you a list of homes that we think are suitable and will encourage you to go and have a look at them before you make a final decision.  Your social worker can make arrangements for you to visit.
