Treatment Foster Care

An exciting scheme providing intensive support for young people aged 10-16

Treatment foster care is an exciting new fostering scheme which originated in the USA, and has a proven record of success. Its aim is to prepare young people for family life - either by reuniting them with their birth family or going on to long-term fostering.  Treatment foster care is based on Social Learning Theory, and uses positive encouragement and consistent boundaries to help manage the young person's challenging behaviour.

Treatment foster care is for young people between 10 and 16 who have emotional and behavioural problems, resulting in them having had many placement moves. They will live with foster carers for 9-12 months, during which time they will receive intensive support in a family setting from specialists including:

  • social workers
  • psychologist
  • birth family therapist
  • psychiatrist
  • skills trainer
  • teacher
  • individual therapist

We are currently recruiting carers to take part in this new scheme. As a carer you will work closely with professionals and have access to 24 hour support. You will also receive a good financial package.

Foster carers for this scheme must live within 45 minutes of Hammersmith & Fulham, have a spare room for the young person, and have no other children under the age of 18.

If you think you might be interested in becoming a treatment foster carer please contact Louise Hocking or Camilla Swart on 020 8753 3940 or email louise.hocking@lbhf.gov.uk  or camilla.swart@lbhf.gov.uk.

We will arrange to meet with you to discuss the project in more detail and to answer any questions you have.
