Specialist equipment

Specialist equipment

The occupational therapy service can advise you on disability equipment, housing adaptations and adaptations to the workplace.

For example providing you with specialist equipment to assist you with activities such as getting in and out of the bath or on and off the toilet, organising minor alterations to your home such as installing grab or stair rails to help you get around safely and arranging major works such as installing a stair lift or ramp.

Before we can arrange services for you, you will need to complete an assessment.

Is help from services free?

There is no charge for your assessment or the advice we give you. Some specialist equipment you need is given to you as a long term loan. It remains the property of the council but it is yours to use for as long as you need it.

For minor alterations to your home or major works there may be charges which we will discuss with you.

For people able and wanting to fund their own equipment or adaptations, advice and information is available by contacting us or by contacting the Disabled Living Foundation.
