Changes to the Blue Badge from 1 January 2012

Changes to the Blue Badge from 1 January 2012

From 1 January 2012, a new style Blue Badge will be introduced nationwide. Local Authorities are obliged to issue these new badges for all new applications, renewals and replacements.

Blue badge usage and benefits remain unchanged, but the badge is more tamperproof and includes a number of security elements, including an integrated photograph and hologram. Details of badge-holders will be held on a national database to allow local authorities to cross match application details and assist parking enforcement.

The new badge will be produced by a security company and delivered to the Accessible Transport Team at Hammersmith Town Hall Extension for collection by the badge holder or their representative. This means the badge will no longer be available on the same day, it will take up to 2 weeks for it to be produced and delivered to Hammersmith and Fulham for collection. The improvements to the badge and the introduction of the national database carry significant extra costs for Hammersmith and Fulham council. To cover these costs a fee of £10 will be introduced for the issue of a blue badge from 1 January 2012.
