Sensory and Language Impairment

For children with sensory and language impairment

The Sensory and Language Impairment Team provides specialist assessment, teaching and advice for children and young people with hearing impairment, visual impairment and speech, language and communication impairment. Portage and advice for young children with significant development delay is also part of the team's service.
The team works with children and their families from the identification of children's needs (sometimes shortly after birth) throughout their school lives. A wide range of INSET (in service education for teachers) is available to professional colleagues, tailored to meet the individual's specific requirements.

Teachers work in collaboration with other professionals, especially those from health and social services. In addition, teachers represent the LEA at annual reviews and monitor provision for specific pupils.
