Deep clean service for residents returning home from hospital

Deep clean service for residents returning home (from hospital).

Where the cleanliness of the property and furnishings has deteriorated to such an extent regular home care services cannot start or continue, the mobile cleaning unit can deep clean service users’ homes

The service has a small van and the following equipment:

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Carpet shampoo machine
  • Heavy duty cleaning solution
  • Deodoriser
  • Buckets
  • Mops
  • Floor scrapers

What the service can do:

  • Remove and dispose of up to 5 bin liners full of household rubbish
  • Clean up rotten food, vomit, urine, faeces and blood spillages
  • Clean kitchen, including fridges and cookers
  • Clean bathrooms and toilets
  • Wash floors
  • Wash walls and doors (but not if heavily stained with nicotine or wallpapered)
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpets
  • Rearrange furniture to create a safer environment for the service user
  • Change light bulbs if ceiling is a reasonable height

What the service can do that requires 2 people:

  • Hang curtains if window size in height is reasonable
  • Clean inside of windows
  • Bag up soiled bedding or clothes for INCONTINENT laundry to collect on same day as mobile unit visit
  • Remove and place furniture outside the service users home for collection

What the service cannot do:

  • Remove large amounts of household rubbish or furniture
  • Carry out tasks in properties which are infested with vermin or insects
  • Enter properties where animals present a Health and Safety risk
  • Enter a property without a risk assessment being carried out i.e. the property must have been viewed and risk-assessed
  • Dispose of syringes or other sharp objects
  • Clean or remove household or personal possessions if the premises are empty without the appropriate Authorisation form being signed
  • Unblock sinks, basins or toilets
  • Wash ceilings
  • Clean up smoke or fire damage
  • Clean balconies, communal areas or gardens
  • Remove building materials or clean up after the building/decorating work has been carried out.

Referring:

Referrals should be made by assessors, social workers, home care managers etc, please call the Manager on 020 3080 0570. 

If the client is in hospital and the property is empty then you will need to send a completed authorisation form signed by the service user.  If there are any items to be disposed of, they need to be specified in writing on the form and agreed with the service user.

If the property is infested with vermin or insects then the referrer must make arrangements for the property to be sprayed and cleaned by Environmental Health. (020 8753 1081)  The mobile unit will not visit until it has been confirmed this has been completed.

If there are any items of furniture to be disposed of then the referrer must arrange for these items to be taken away. 

Requests for clients with mental health problems but not receiving domiciliary care must have an allocated social worker who has carried out a risk assessment and this must be attached to the referral form.
