Why you should recycle!
How you can do your bit to help your environment
Why should I recycle?
We all produce rubbish and the amount is growing each year. Not only is rubbish costly to collect and dispose of, it can cause many environmental problems from disposal, to transportation, to wasted energy, to the unnecessary use of the earth's natural resources.
In 2007/ 08 residents recycled 27% of household waste, a 3% increase since last year! This page explains how everyone can do their bit.
Recycling services.
For information on recycling services visit the council's recycling pages or contact cleaner.greener@lbhf.gov.uk or ring 020 8753 1100.
Home Composting.
It's easy, it's cheap and it can help bring on the garden or tubs a treat. So why don't more of us make compost? Vegetable peelings, fruit scraps, teabags and coffee grounds - things we'd normally throw away - plus grass clippings and old flower heads and plants will all rot down and produce valuable compost. It can save a fortune at the garden centre, with a modern composter it doesn't have to be messy or smelly.
And what's more, it helps the environment. Hammersmith & Fulham residents produced over 80,000 tonnes of waste last year - and at least 20% of that could have been composted.
The council runs a subsidised home compost bin promotion, visit the composting page for details.

Recycle Western Riverside!
Recycle Western Riverside is a five year public awareness campaign to get everyone recycling more, reducing their rubbish and buying more recycled products.
Western Riverside Waste Authority is responsible for handling the rubbish and recyclables from the London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
The Recycle Western Riverside campaign has been set up to change the way we think about the rubbish we produce and how we deal with it.
