Battery recycling facilities

You can now recycle your used batteries

The UK generates around 30,000 tonnes of waste batteries a year, less than 1,000 tonnes are recycled!

Did you know you can now recycle your used batteries at some public buildings?

Previously residents were asked to take their used dry cell battteries to the Civic Amenity site at Smugglers Way in Wandsworth.  You may still take your batteries here but we have made it easier for you by installing battery recycling tubes at the following public buildings:

  • Hammersmith Town Hall Reception
  • Riverview House Reception
  • Hammersmith Library
  • Fulham Library
  • Shepherd's Bush Library
  • Askew Rd Library
  • Baron's Court Library
  • Sands End Library

The battery recycling tubes can accept only single use batteries: dry cell batteries; button batteries (watch and calculator batteries) and domestic household batteries.

Please note that NO rechargeable batteries (i.e: Nickel cadmium (NiCd), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and lithium batteries) should be put in the battery recycling tube. Also, we are unable to accept any Lead Acid Batteries – Industrial, motor vehicle, and computer back-up batteries.

The batteries are collected by the recycling crew and taken to Smugglers Way in Wandsworth.  They are then collected and recycled by Vinton Metals. Please see their website for more information: http://www.vintonbatteries.co.uk/profile.shtml

Please take part in the scheme and bring along your batteries!
