Recycle your unused computers
The council does not currently offer a recycling collection service for computers or electronic equipment from home, however residents can take computers to the Civic Amenity site at Smugglers Way in Wandsworth to be recycled. There are also several companies in London that recycle computers. These companies have different requirements, please read the details below.

Ecochip UK CIC
Ecochip is a non-for profit making UK wide social enterprise based in London. Ecochip donates to charities by reprocessing disused IT equipment. Provides refurbished equipment at low cost to the disadvantaged (e.g. disabled or aged) and to lower income organisations or individuals and export to poorer countries. Equipment received is either refurbished for reuse or broken down into raw materials for recycling.
If you are a resident that would like to dispose off a laptop or desktop that is no older than 6 years, then Ecochip will collect from your home FREE of charge. Ecochip provides a weekly collection service following booking arrangements with the resident.
For any older equipment and other items such as laser cartridges, inkjet cartridges there is a charge involved when you book a collection. They accept - all computer related equipment of any age whether broken or working including servers, PC's, macs, printers, fax machines, network infrastructure and telephony. There is no minimum quantity and they serve both housholders and businesses. Broken monitors are accepted but charges are much higher due to increased reprocessing costs of toxic waste. Additional services include guaranteed data destruction.
They collect - computer equipment within Greater London. There is sometimes a minimal charge to businesses and households outside a 5 mile radius simply to recover transportation costs or breaking down into raw materials where necessary. Any charges depend upon recyclable value.

Computer Aid International
A registered charity aiming to increase the number of refurbished computers being reused overseas and increase the number of UK organisations donating their used IT equipment for reuse overseas. Also provide training and work experience in computer repair to people from socially excluded communities in their workshops in the UK.
They accept - any laptops or desktops no older than 5-6 years. They accept Pentium 3 or above machines and any related peripheral equipment. Importantly they also need mice, keyboards, modems, cables and power leads, memory and other peripheral parts. They also accept laser cartridges, inkjet cartridges and mobile phones. They sometimes accept printers and networking equipment, please contact them for more information.
Computer Aid do not offer a collection from home however if you are interested to reuse or recycle any of the above you can either post the equipment or drop it off to the address below.

Computers for Charities - Collect only from businesses
Operating since 1994 refurbishing equipment for use by UK charities and schools. Also operate educational and vocational projects overseas and provide advice and consultancy to charities and voluntary organisations.
They accept - working PC's and Apple Macs under four years old. No printers, scanners or screens larger than 15". Recycling for Charities our sister organisation caters for recycling and data removal of older IT equipment, including CRT disposal in accordance with WEEE directives.
Will collect - if it is viable to do so. Drop off point is located in London.
