Nice Save! Last year H&F saved £500,000 by recycling. It costs £128 for us to dispose of a tonne of waste, compared to just £73 a tonne for recycling. Please keep up the good work and recycle as much as you can. Recycling also protects natural resource, saves energy and creates jobs. Visit the Recycle Western Riverside website (opens in new window), to find out more about the benefits of recycling.

What can I put in the Smart Bank?

The items below can be mixed together in the Smart Bank:

Mixed glass, paper and card, plastic bottles, cartons, tins and cans and aerosols

New - plastic pots, tubs and trays can now be recycled

Recycling mixed glass Recycling mixed paper and card
Recycling cartons Recycling food tins and drink cans Recycling aerosols

Please remember to:

  • remove lids from bottles and jars
  • give bottles, jars, cans and cartons a quick rinse in your washing up water
  • flatten cardboard boxes
  • squash plastic bottles and cartons
  • make sure aerosols are empty.

Sorry, we can’t accept any other items in the Smart Bank at the moment. It’s important to keep other items out of the Smart Bank. They are classed as contamination and may cause the contents of the Smart Bank to be sent to landfill rather than being recycled.

Please put items into the Smart Bank loose. The collection crew may mistake black bags for rubbish and the recycling may be sent to landfill.
