Noise nuisance - car alarms
How we can help
The Noise and Statutory Nuisance Act 1993, allows councils to turn off vehicle alarms if they are causing a nuisance.
Once a nuisance has been established we can serve a Noise Abatement Notice on the owner or if the owner cannot be found we place the Notice on the car. This requires the owner to deactivate the alarm within one hour.
We will endeavour to locate the owner of the vehicle by liasing with the Police, Neighbours, DVLA and other council departments.
If we cannot locate the owner we can enter the vehicle and disable the alarm. We take care not to damage the vehicle and use specialist contractors. On occasions it may be necessary to tow the vehicle away. After entering a vehicle we will leave it secured or immobilised.
The council will recover all costs associated with disabling an alarm from the registered keeper of the vehicle.
