Noise from Pubs and Clubs

Noise from Pubs and Clubs

Licensed Entertainment

Noise from entertainment venues is a common cause of complaint to local authorities.  In particular loud amplified music and raised voices in beer gardens and vehicles or patrons leaving can be disturbing for neighbouring residents.

The council is responsible for issuing alcohol and entertainment premises licences, and residents and businesses in the vicinity of the premises have the right to make representations about applications for a new licence or variations to an existing licence.

Where it is likely that noise will be a problem  the council will impose conditions on the licence that will ensure that entertainment activities held at the venue do not cause nuisance to local residents.

If you experience loud music or patron noise from a pub, club or restaurant please contact the council’s Licensing Team on 0208 753 1081 and we will endeavour to investigate your complaint.  We will check the conditions of the licence and, if we find they are not being met the council will contact the owner of the premise and offer advice on preventing noise.

You can also call the council’s out of hour’s Environmental Protection Team on 0208 748 8588 at the time that the noise is occurring.  It may be necessary for an officer to visit your home to assess level of noise and gather evidence should further enforcement action be required.

If noise becomes a persistent problem then the Council has powers to serve a noise abatement notice on those responsible.  If this is not complied with, we can instigate prosecution proceedings which may lead to a formal review of the current licence.
