The council has received approval of its application for a Regulation 7 Direction from the Secretary of State. Any estate agent boards displayed after 27 November 2006 will be removed by the council after service of a formal two-day notice and those responsible for their display will be charged a fee of £150 per board for its removal and disposal.
The council will be carrying out regular inspections of the two affected areas to ensure compliance with the Direction. This means there will be no need to report unauthorised boards to the council.
In other parts of the borough, estate agents do not require consent from the council for the display of these advertising boards subject to the conditions listed in the Temporary Advertisements Deemed Consent document (pdf).
