Planning appeals

If your planning application is refused, you are not satisfied with the conditions of your planning permission or you have not received a decision within the statutory deadline, you can appeal to the Planning Inspectorate Opens in new window.

This is part of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) Opens in new window.

The appeal will be considered by a planning inspector who has been appointed by the Secretary of State. While most appeals are handled in writing, some are decided by a hearing before an inspector and some are decided after a public inquiry.

Please note, there is no right of appeal for ‘third parties’ (such as neighbouring occupiers).

Check the progress of a current planning appeal, view and comment on an appeal, or browse past records Planning Inspectorate website Opens in new window.

To search the database you will need the last part of the Inspectorate Reference number, which can be found on our planning applications search page.  Search Search planning applications
