The SCI: public participation in planning

Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

The council now has an Adopted SCI in place. A formal Notice of Adoption had been produced for the SCI.

This sets out the principles the council will apply, and mechanisms used, in involving the community in planning matters. It identifies opportunities to play a part in deciding both individual planning applications, and future Local Development Framework policy against which applications are considered. Legislation sets out minimum requirements for consultation and publicity, but the SCI details how the council will surpass these community involvement measures.

The SCI has itself been subject to consultation and thorough scrutiny. Public comments on draft versions have been considered, and consultation led to independent examination of SCI proposals by the Planning Inspectorate: see the Inspector's Report.
