Local Development Framework
(LDF)
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 introduced major changes to the process for preparing plans. Local Development Documents, which will comprise the Local Development Framework (LDF) will replace the current Unitary Development Plan (UDP).
The LDF will not fully replace the existing UDP (as amended Sept 2007) as the statutory local plan until the process (including rounds of public consultation) has been completed and a number of development plan documents (DPDs) formally adopted.

Key Stages of the Local Development Framework
The Local Development Scheme (LDS) sets out the programme for preparing the LDF. The LDS is the first point of contact for anyone wishing to find out about which planning documents will be included in the LDF, but it does not include planning policies. For updates on the LDS programme please visit our online LDF consultation information page. The Council expect to update the LDS in Summer 2008.
Public participation now plays an even greater role in planning within the LDF system. This fundamental principle has led to important new features such as the Statement of Community Involvement. The council adopted a Statement of Community Involvement in September 2006. The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) explains how anyone in the community can help draw up planning policy, and contribute to decisions on planning applications.SCI Archive
