ParkLife improvement programme

A summary of our main improvement programmes for parks in Hammersmith & Fulham

Shepherds Bush Green – Over £3 million has been earmarked to breathe new life into this park. Work on the new-look Green is expected to start in March 2009 and plans include the creation of an open air plaza at the eastern end, a café with outdoor seating and new play areas for children of all ages.

Residents will be able to have a first look at detailed plans at an exhibition at West 12 Shopping Leisure Centre on the Broadway from Thursday June 12 to Wednesday June 18. » View plans

Bishops Park - Plans to spruce up Bishops Park and the grounds of Fulham Palace have been backed to the tune of £2 million by the council. And H&F is due to hear in September if it has been successful in winning a £4 million grant for the scheme from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People programme.

The council intends to restore the lake, pond, balustrade and Fulham Beach, which hark back to Victorian times. The pitch and putt golf course will return, the outdoor play area will move to another part of the park and an interactive water play feature will be built on the site of the former bandstand. The café building will be refurbished with new toilet blocks and an extension serving as a community room and bowls club.

Normand Park – The council has teamed up with neighbourhood regeneration programme North Fulham New Deal for Communities in a £3 million project to rejuvenate this park on Lillie Road.

New features include a larger and improved play area with outside table tennis tables, climbing walls, a ball games area, wildflower planting, a sand pit, an informal play area with grass, trees and balancing beams. There will also be a BMX practice area for younger people, an open grass area with picnic decks, new toilet facilities and much else besides. » Normand Park opened on July 10

South Park – Further south, this park has also been earmarked for a major revamp. As one of the council’s flagship parks, South Park will have extensive works carried out to raise the overall standard of management and grounds maintenance, as well as benefiting from much needed improvements to the park’s key features.

Repairs to the perimeter terracotta walls and removal of planters in the central area of the park have already taken place. Alongside repairs to the Lodge and improvements to the changing rooms, essential maintenance works are also being undertaken with a view to the future of the park as a facility for recreation, play and quiet enjoyment for residents.
