Research carried out on behalf of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) early in 2003, found that one in six homeowners, who had undertaken building work in the last three years had had a serious disagreement with their builder.
The MasterBond warranty scheme offers small to medium sized builders a low-cost, comprehensive third party insurance scheme to protect homeowners' interests in the event of any problems associated with their work.
Some features of the MasterBond warranty:
- Only registered builders can provide a MasterBond warranty
- Offers protection against defects due to faulty workmanship or materials for the first two years
- Offers protection against structural defects for a further eight years
- The cover extends to work carried out by sub-contractors appointed by your MasterBond warranted builder
- Free and effective conciliation service
- Protection offered even where the builder has gone out of business
- Protection passes automatically to future purchasers of your house - an extra selling point
- Contract to ensure that work that is covered by the warranty will be carried out to an agreed price and within an agreed time
