Changes to Building Regulations part A

What the changes are to Part A

Part A - 2004 Edition.

These changes came into force on 1st December 2004.

Main Changes.

The familiar tables have been removed.  TRADA load span tables to be used instead or members to be designed as required.

Wall ties to all buildings to be stainless steel.

BS449, CP3 Chapter V Part 2 removed from the list of standards in Approved Document A.  Eurocodes and their National Annexes to be added once they have been approved by the Secretary of State.

Limits on building proportions, heights and acceptable wall thickness have been clarified.

Domestic floors to have a super imposed load specified as 2.0 kN/m2, allowing for 0.5 kN/m2 for moveable partitions.

Disproportionate collapse - all buildings are subject to a risk analysis and the number and type of ties are recommended accordingly.

NOTE: a loft room is now considered a storey.
