Feral cats and kittens

Feral cats are domestic cats and their kittens living in the wild.

KittenSome feral cats or kitttens may have been pets which have been abandoned by their owners and  or some may have got lost. Other cats are born as feral and continue to produce their own feral kittens. Any kittens born into the wild will be unaccustomed to human contact and will become ‘feral’ or wild.

Feral cats can often suffer from diseases which can in turn be passed to domesticated cats in the same area. Feral cats often live in large colonies and reproduce rapidly so neutering is essential to manage the population.

The Mayhew Animal Home offers a ‘trap, neuter and release’ programme for feral cats in the borough. If you are aware of individual or a colony of feral cats please contact The Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officers on 020 8968 2352.

The Mayhew also offer a re-homing service for abandoned or stay cats, helping to find them loving and committed new lifetime homes. If a cat has been seen in your neighbourhood for sometime, is approachable but looks uncared for, please contact the above number for further advice.
