Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean Fulham Cross / Henry Compton is closing down?
No, both schools will remain open on their own sites.

Are the two schools amalgamating?
No – they are Federating, which means they will retain their separate identities but will have one Governing Body and a Principal.

Does this mean that teachers and other staff will lose their jobs?
No – in fact, as the Federation will have a sixth form we will more than likely need more staff.

Will the students have to travel between buildings?
Not generally – a small number of KS4 learners may elect to take courses at the other school which could involve some travel. The schools are only 5 minutes walking distance apart.

When will the building work start?
Henry Compton’s Performing Arts Block and Fulham Cross’s Language Block, which are both completely new buildings, will start in the spring of 2009. Improving existing buildings works associated with the Building Schools for the Future programme will start in 2011/2012.

Will the uniforms change?
Not initially – but this is something for the learners to decide once in the Federation.

Will my son / daughter be able to stay at the school for his / her sixth form?
Yes, eventually, but not until the construction stage of the Building Schools for the Future programme is complete. This may not be until 2018, so will not be available to some of our current students.

What extra opportunities will there be for the students?
There already is a rich offer of extra–curricular activities, at both schools. This includes sporting sessions, subject classes and coursework classes, and booster classes for both SATS in Year 9 and GCSEs in Year 11. The federation will build on this programme.

What does an enhanced curriculum mean?
An enhanced curriculum gives the learner more choice in the courses that are being offered in the upper school and at 6th Form level. These will include GCSEs, A & AS levels, Btecs, Diplomas, Young Apprenticeships and a range of vocational courses.

What will be available for the community?
Both schools have always engaged actively with the community. The new facilities will be developed for community use as well.
