Henry Compton and Fulham Cross Girls' schools federation proposal
We asked you what you thought about the proposals for Henry Compton and Fulham Cross Girls' schools.
One of the outcomes of the Fulham Schools’ Commission last year was a recommendation to bring together Fulham Cross Girls’ School and Henry Compton School. The Governors of both schools have agreed that working together would enable further positive change. They feel stronger collaboration between the two schools would raise standards, promote inclusion, and further develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
• The working title for the new school is Fulham College.
• It would be controlled by a single joint governing body and one headteacher.
• It would provide ten classes per academic year.
• It would admit 300 pupils at the age of 11, giving a total of 1,500 places for 11 to 16 year-olds.
Fulham College would see the existing schools rebuilt or re-modelled with state-of-the-art facilities tailored to the needs of its pupils. Work is expected to commence early in 2009 with a projected completion date early in the academic year 2009/10. Funding for the redevelopment of secondary schools in Hammersmith & Fulham will come from the Government’s Building Schools for the Future initiative.
The proposals have implications for everyone associated with the school: pupils, parents, teachers and friends of the schools, as well as the wider community. Accordingly, the Governing Bodies of Fulham Cross Girls’ and Henry Compton schools called a public consultation to provide an opportunity for everyone to comment before a decision is taken on whether or not to proceed.
The consultation report below details a strong measure of support for federation and for exploring trust status, with support outweighing opposition in a ratio of over 2:1.
