Secondary school admissions

How to apply to secondary schools if your child lives in Hammersmith & Fulham

Each year, in September and October, parents of children in their final year of primary school (year 6) who live in Hammersmith & Fulham and would like their child to go to a state secondary school, must apply for a secondary school place through our schools admissions process.

This year's closing date for local authorities across London was 23 October 2009.

The secondary schools admissions process is coordinated across all London boroughs. This means you can apply for up to six secondary schools, both in and outside Hammersmith & Fulham, in one single application. Your application can either be completed on a paper form or online. Although this year's admissions round has closed, you may find this information useful.

A quick guide to completing your application
For an overview of schools in Hammersmith & Fulham and their admissions criteria please see:

Our full guide: Moving on up - transfer to secondary schools September 2010 (pdf)

If you are interested in particular schools it is important that you visit the school. At the open day you should pick up a copy of the school's own prospectus which contains more detailed information. If you cannot visit on the open days, you should contact the school to see if you can visit at another time, and ask them to send you a prospectus.

Application forms
If your child goes to a Hammersmith & Fulham state primary school, you should receive a paper application form early in the autumn term. You can also apply online which means you do not need to return this paper form.

In your application you can choose up to six schools which you list in order of preference.

You must provide proof of address with your application - either attached to your application form or sent directly to the school admissions section if you are applying online.

  • If you are applying to a voluntary aided school you will likely be asked to complete an additional information form, available from the school. The following Hammersmith & Fulham schools need an additional application form: The London Oratory School, Sacred Heart High School, Lady Margaret School
  • If you are applying on medical or social grounds to a particular school, you need to attach evidence from your doctor and/or social/health worker to your application.
  • 1 March 2010 is the London-wide date when all offer letters of a school place will be sent out to parents.
