Financial assistance
Payment of fares
The Mayor of London has made bus travel free for all young people under the age of 18 in full time education and we are expecting that most pupils will be able to make their journeys to schools by bus. Hammersmith and Fulham council will consider applications for free school travel up to and including year 11 where it is not possible for the journey from home to school to be completed by bus only, either because the journey would take too long or because it would involve more than two changes of bus.
Sixth formers and college students should apply for travel via an Educational Maintenance Allowance. Applications forms for the EMA are available by calling 0808 101 6219.
• All applicants must reside within the area of Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
• Pupils must attend their nearest available school . If an application was not made to the nearest school of the desired type or a place was offered and not accepted, then a travel application will not be accepted. If a parent is not successful in obtaining a place at the nearest school of their preference they MUST supply evidence of this.
• The nearest available school must be more than two miles from the parental home for pupils under eight-years-old and three miles for pupils aged over eight-years-old .
• A bus journey would take more than 45 minutes or 75 minutes respectively for a primary school pupil or for a secondary school pupil, in accordance with the shortest time stated by TfL.
• There is a statement of special educational needs.
• Exceptional circumstances such as medical need etc. Independent evidence would be required.

Free school meals
Your children qualify for free school meals if you:
• receive Income Support or Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
• are supported under the National Asylum Seekers Support Scheme
• receive Child Tax Credit/Pension Credit and your income is less than £15,575 per annum. However, if you receive any element of Working Tax Credit, you will not qualify.
Children already receiving free school meals at primary school will continue to receive them at secondary school as long as their parent/carer still qualifies for these benefits. School clothing grants
These are given to help parents buy school uniform for their children. Your children qualify for clothing grants in year 7 and year 10 if you:
• receive Income Support or Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
• are supported under the National Asylum Seekers Support Scheme
• receive Child Tax Credit/Pension Credit and your income is less than £15,575 per annum. However, if you receive any element of Working Tax Credit, you will not qualify .

Financial support for 16 to 19 year olds
