School improvement access and inclusion

Our School Improvement Access & Inclusion Service plays an active role in developing the quality of education in Hammersmith and Fulham.

We have an established school improvement strategy and inspectors work in partnership with schools to develop schools' management systems, curriculum and teaching to achieve high standards for pupils.

We provide a basic entitlement of monitoring and support and schools are able to buy in additional support and advice. All our schools have a link advisor who is responsible for a group of schools. Link advisors play a key role in identifying staff development needs and they liaise with other advisors and officers to plan and provide the appropriate services for schools. There is a well established cycle for setting achievement targets and for reporting progress formally to governing bodies. Advisors monitor the performance of schools by regular observation in classrooms, analysis of school documentation and discussion with the headteacher, staff, pupils and parents. We also provide support for schools in following up the key issues for action in their Ofsted report.

We run a programme of continuing professional development for staff to support and help raise standards in schools.

In addition to this we support schools' self evaluation. Advisors are trained to advise schools on the performance management process as well as advising governors on setting objectives for headteachers.
