Private nurseries nursery grants

We offer a free or subsidised nursery place for every three and four year old in the borough. This means that, in addition to the free places provided in our own nursery schools and classes, paid-for places are available in private and voluntary sector nurseries and pre-schools for three and four year olds.

This funding is called the 'three and four year old offer'. It allows parents to access nursery schooling for up to two sessions a day, up to five sessions a week, for up to 38 weeks a year (a session is two and a half hours). The council pays the money directly to nurseries and pre-schools who are registered with Hammersmith & Fulham's early years service. The nursery or pre-school claims the funding for all three and four year olds registered with them on a specific date at the start of each term.

Nurseries and pre-schools can make the claim the term after your child's third of fourth birthday, and children are eligible for three terms' funding. Your child could receive a maximum of six terms' funding with the three and four year old offer.

If your child attends a private or voluntary sector centre, you will need to check with them at the beginning of each term to see if your child will be included in the claim for that term.

Parents will be expected to pay for any care that is above the free entitlement.

For a full list of all nurseries and pre-schools who offer the funding and to find out how much you might be entitled to, contact the children's information service.
