Family Information Service
The council's Children's Information Service has changed its name and extended the age range for which it provides information, which can only mean good news for young people and families in the borough.
The Family Information Service (FIS) as it it now known provides accurate and impartial information and advice on the range of facilities for children and young people aged 0-19 years old. These include services provided by the council as well as the voluntary, private and independent sectors in Hammersmith & Fulham.
Only the FIS has access to the latest local Ofsted(the Office for Standards in Education) information on childcare and early years education.
The FIS can advise you on how to choose the type of childcare or early years service that best suits your needs and send you up to date lists, including contact details for:
- Childminders (some offer baby sitting)
- Nurseries
- Pre-schools
- Crèches
- Children's Centres
- After-school care and holiday play schemes
- Extended services in schools
- Parent and toddler groups
- Toy libraries
- Activities for children and young people
How to get help with childcare costs
The FIS can also provide you with information on help with childcare costs, including the 3 and 4 year old offer for nursery education, Child Tax Credit and general financial help for students. For working parents we can also give advice about maximising income through the Working Tax Credit, and claiming the childcare element of this, which can pay up to 80% of registered childcare costs.
