Agewell activities

The Agewell project promotes exercise and healthy living for the over 50s in Hammersmith and Fulham.

Agewell membership gives access to a borough-wide programme of classes arranged to suit all levels of ability.

The classes provide an ideal opportunity to join a friendly, supportive group and improve your mobility, stamina and general fitness.

Whether your interest is gentle seated exercise or more vigorous exercise to music, line or sequence dancing, badminton, bowls, rambling or table tennis, there is a friendly session for you.

Here are a few examples of the classes offered:

Salsa dance classes

Salsa dance is fun and fitness at once! Combining salsa dance moves and exercise, it will increase your flexibility and coordination, getting your heart pumping without being exhausted. With gentle pace and emphasis on having fun while dancing. It’s the perfect class for beginners, young and old. You can come on your own and
feel welcome!

Yoga

Learn basic postures breathing techniques, strengthening and stretching. This class is suitable for all levels.

Circuit training (monitored)

This class is a progression from the hospital based phase III cardiac rehabilitation exercise class. It is therefore suitable for those individuals with heart conditions. Such as stable angina or a heart by pass who have been referred into exercise as well as anyone who wishes to boost their cardiovascular fitness.

Circuit training (senior)

This class is suitable for those individuals who would like a challenging workout! The class can be seen as a progression from the monitored class and is aimed at low risk individuals and those who don’t have a heart condition. If any doubts, Please speak to Alison first.

Chi ball/Gentle exercise

Using a small beach type ball infused with aromatherapy oils corresponding to it’s colour, one gently mobilises, revitalises and rejuvenates ones energy (Chi) by stimulating the central nervous system and inner organs incorporating moves from various disciplines, i.e. Thai chi Yoga and Pilates, the method has been devised to help tone and balance your mind, body and spirit.

Pilates

This class is a mat-based workout which combines flexibility with strength and coordinates breathing with movement. Individuals with back, knee and postural problems may benefit from this class.

Slimnastics

An aerobic workout including mat/chair-based work for specific muscle toning exercises.
Advice about diet and nutrition is also available.

Aquacise/Deep water

Exercises performed in the water can help ‘cushion’ joints whilst using the water as resistance tool for muscle strengthening. This class is particularly suitable for those with arthritis or other joint conditions.

Slimnastics

An aerobic workout including mat/chair-based work for specific muscle toning exercises.
Advice about diet and nutrition is also available.

Exercise to music

You will get an overall workout for stamina, strength and suppleness.
This class is aimed as active beginners and regular exercisers.

Rambles

A range of walks to suit everyone-from shorter walks over fairly flat ground for people with mobility difficulties to five miles plus country rambles for more seasoned walkers. Please remember to bring a packed lunch and wear appropriate clothing and footwear. The rambles vary in distance and difficulty. If you are unsure which the best ramble is for you, please contact us.

Fees

For a small termly fee you can have unlimited access to the majority of the Agewell classes:
Borough residents: £25 per course, per term. 
Non-borough users: £35 per course, per term.
Concessions: £15 per course, per term. 
Please note some classes are pay as you go. There may be small additional charges where classes are held in venues other than education department sites.
