Mayor of London
The Mayor is the executive of the strategic authority for London (the GLA). His role is to promote economic development and wealth creation, social development and the improvement of the environment. The Mayor also has a number of other duties in relation to culture and tourism, including responsibility for Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square. The current Mayor of London is:

Greater London Assembly
The London Assembly has 25 members, all elected at the same time as the Mayor. The London Assembly examines the Mayor's activities, and questions him about his decisions. The Assembly is also able to investigate other issues of importance to Londoners, publish its findings and recommendations, and make proposals to the Mayor.
