Retrospective Equality Impact Assessments
A REIA is a service improvement tool with a focus on equalities. It looks systematically at a service, policy or function to see how it can identify areas of weakness, such as poor take-up or access, and opportunities to further promote equality of opportunity. The REIA also helps to identify and remedy any differential impact on any equality gaps.
The REIA is a key component of the Council’s performance and equality management cycle. The REIA is also a key legal requirement of the race, disability and gender equality duties, as well as a key part of the Equality Standard for Local Government. H&F’s REIA process covers the six strands of equality, which are: race, disability, gender, age, belief system and sexuality.
