Giving Notice of Intention to Register a Civil Partnership
Notice can only be given, in person, at the Register Office in Fulham Town Hall. No-one else can give notice on your behalf. There is an appointment system to give a notice.
Before giving notice of intention you must know which venue you intend to hold your Civil Partnership formation in. A Civil Partnership formation can take place in the Register Office or other premises approved by Hammersmith & Fulham for ceremonies, e.g Fulham Palace, Hurlingham Club, etc. For a Civil Partnership in an approved premise, you will need to check the availability with the venue first and then contact us to inform us of the venue, date and time for a Registrar to attend on the day. Although it is not generally necessary for couples to attend to give Notice at the same time, it is advisable to do so. However, where one or both parties are subject to immigration control they MUST attend the Register Office at the same time.
PLEASE NOTE THAT FROM MONDAY 6TH JUNE 2011 HAMMERSMITH AND FULHAM REGISTER OFFICE ARE INTRODUCING AN APPOINTMENT SYSTEM FOR TAKING NOTICES FOR CIVIL PARTNERSHIP PLEASE RING THE OFFICE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
At the time of giving Notice each person will have to have been resident in the district for at least 9 days before the date on which they give Notice. Each person will pay a fee of £33.50 and MUST also bring the following documentation:
- proof of name, age and nationality – i.e. passport
- confirmation of usual address – e.g. utility bill, bank statement.
Additional documents that may be required:
1. Where a person has been through a previous form of marriage in this country or any other, OR a previous form of civil partnership in any other country evidence that the marriage or civil partnership has formally ended MUST be produced as appropriate. One of the following documents will be required:
- any court documents issued where a marriage or civil partnership ended as the result of divorce or dissolution, or
- a death certificate where the marriage or civil partnership ended as the result of the death of a spouse or a civil partner.
- If foreign divorce or dissolution the original with a certified translation must be seen
2. People subject to immigration control MUST attend a Designated Office also bring one of the following documents:
- A current passport (If not available please ring the office)
- Divorce or dissolution documents
- Proof of address
3. Where a person has changed their name by Deed Poll or Statutory Declaration those documents MUST be produced.
All documents MUST be originals as photocopies are not acceptable.
Where documents are written in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by a full translation.
