Approved Lists of Contractors

The Council manages its own Approved List of Contractors (mainly works related).  The Appoved List is size limited and is set to run until October 2009.  Occassionally vacancies occur and where this happens organisations can apply for admission through the Approved List website - www.e-approvedlists.org.uk.  The general areas of covered by the Approved List include - 

  • Corporate approved list - general categories (size limited) 
    • General Building Works
    • Environmental Services (inc. pest control, demolition, treatments (eg: legionella) cleaning etc. 
    • Highways and civil engineering 
    • Security and alarm services, ( inc: fire appliance services, lock-smiths, etc.) 
    • Ground works (inc. arboricultural works, sports pitches, playground equipment, landscaping, etc) 
    • Construction related works to housing and non-housing properties (both Internal and External) 
    • Engineering Services (inc. Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Catering Equipment, lifts etc) 
    • Miscellaneous: French polishing, sign making, accommodation services etc 
    • Disabled Adaptations and Associated Works 
                  
  • Small local businesses (including Black & Ethnic Minority -BEM - firms, and the Voluntary & Community Sector):  

     The Council is currently seeking expressions of interest from these sectors, as they are under represented in the contracts it awards (especially those in the borough and the west London area in general).  The National Procurement Strategy for Local Government recognised the need to develop policies that would assist the small business sector.  In accrediting small local business the Council can promote them to main contractors seeking sub-contractors.  The application form also invites these small local business to indicate whether they would be prepared to work for local residents, as a number of requests are received from residents seeking "approved contractors"

It is the intention that the Approved Lists may be made available to other local authorities and public sector organisations that join at a later date. Applicants' details may also be made available to local residents, or large contractors requiring sub-contractors.
