Licences for tables and chairs for restaurants or cafés

Cafe table and chairsIf you want to place tables and chairs on the public highway outside your restaurant café or public house you need to apply for a licence. 

The annual fees for placing tables and chairs on a public pavement or pedestrian area are:

• Pedestrian squares: £331 per table  
• Town centres: £560 for up to 16 covers
• Other highways: £331 for up to 16 covers

An additional fee of £300 is payable if you want to place tables and chairs for over 16 covers, up to a limit to be agreed with our licensing officer. If planning permission is required, it should be applied for in advance and will add a charge of £265 to the licence application. Click here to download a commercial planning application form (pdf).
