Town centre management
There are three town centre managers working within the borough. Each one has responsibility over one of our 3 town centres - Fulham, Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush. Here are the questions most often asked of our town centre management team, and the answers:
What is town centre management?
Town centre managers assist local businesses to develop plans, work together and pool resources with the council to improve the customer experience and so increase trade.
They provide a way to maintain a competitive edge over neighbouring town centres, so keeping our town centres vibrant and great places to live, shop and work.
They maximise local resources for the benefit of the whole town centre.
They take action to support businesses and bring people together to solve business priorities.
They work as champions for our town centres and visitor attractions.
They also work closely with the Visitor Development officer providing activities and guides for visitors.
Why are our town centres important?
Our town centres are at the heart of our communities. They provide local services, business opportunities and a social hub. By working together with businesses we can increase visitor numbers, jobs and prosperity - all of which will lead to vibrant and safe town centres worthy of local pride.
How does town centre management work?
We undertake a vast number of activities to assist businesses and make our town centres more competitive - here are some examples of our current activities:
- Organisation of business forums to tackle issues ranging from litter to licensing
- Organisation of events and promotions to attract more footfall (more people = more spending) and inward investment
- Development and delivery projects to improving customer safety and business security
- Bidding for all possible central government funding for projects as diverse as disability access, shop front improvements, and Safer Shopping initiatives
- Supporting new and exisiting businesses by informing them of council teams providing other services to businesses, such as parking, planning and permits
