Tourism and visitor development

Tourism is worth over £632.16 million to local businesses in Hammersmith & Fulham (Steam 2004). To ensure this industry is supported and sustainable Hammersmith & Fulham have a visitor development plan. This 3 year project, funded by the London Development Agency, aims to improve and develop the borough and White City as a destination for visitors and maximise the benefits of tourism to the local community.

There are many exciting new hotel and leisure developments planned in the area, and we aim to ensure that not only do they provide facilities for visitors, but also that they provide employment and leisure opportunities for local businesses and residents.

Activities include:

  • Providing information about the area to all visitors, residents, Londoners and international tourists.
  • Promoting and marketing the area and its attractions to increase visitor spend and encourage visitors to stay longer
  • Encouraging quality and best practice e.g national quality classification for accommodation, (including advice about starting a guest accommodation business),
  • sustainable tourism
  • Working with employers and agencies to improve employment and training opportunities within the hospitality industry
  • Involving local businesses in developing visitor products eg cultural walks, publications
  • Collecting information about tourism (perceptions, economic impact and customer satisfaction)
  • Working to raise the profile of Fulham, Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush town centres.  www.visithammersmith.co.ukwww.visitfulham.co.ukwww.visitshepherdsbush.co.uk
