Equality and diversity

The equality-online website (www.equality-online.org.uk) provides advice and information for businesses on the main topics related to equality and diversity in the workplace. It provides general guidance for employers to ensure that employment practices and policies are inclusive and non-discriminatory.

The Equality Advice Centre section (http://www.equality-online.org.uk/equality_advice/index.html), gives advice on incorporating diversity into recruitment, training and promotions schemes, positive action initiatives, flexible working, pay banding and bullying and harassment.

The Employment Legislation section (http://www.equality-online.org.uk/employment_legislation/index.html) gives information on the key anti-discrimination legislation (both existing and forthcoming laws).

The news section (http://www.equality-online.org.uk/news/index.html) gives information and links to relevant news stories and on landmark legal cases related to discrimination in the workplace.  

The council’s Equal team also provides a free Equalities Checklist and organises diversity audits for local businesses – see employment advice.
