London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham Developers’ Summit

Hammersmith & Fulham - a Borough of Opportunity

On 25 September 2007, the borough kick-started its drive to promote urban renewal with a landmark summit for developers keen to work in partnership with the council on initiatives throughout the borough.

More than 80 developers, RSLs (registered social landlords) and their advisers joined senior council leaders at the Walt Disney auditorium for a morning summit aimed at stimulating ideas on urban renewal.

The event looked at new ways to tackle housing problems including availability, planning, and helping people on low incomes onto the property ladder. It focussed on major regeneration opportunities in White City and Shepherds Bush, North Fulham and central Hammersmith as well as other sites across the borough.  At the same time it provided an overview of how the council’s changing policies to planning would help bring forward new development.

Councillor Stephen Greenhalgh opened the summit with a speech about the merits of investing in the borough and the council’s new direction in working co-operatively with developers. Other speakers included Michael Gutman, Managing Director of Westfield for UK and Europe, who are developing the £1.6 billion Westfield London shopping and leisure development in Shepherds Bush, and Jim Ward, Director of Research at international consultancy, Savills, who joined the Leader of H&F and Nigel Pallace, the council’s Director of Environment.
