Fraud investigation
Hammersmith & Fulham Council is fully committed to benefit fraud prevention, and is one of the most successful in London in the detection, investigation and sanctioning of benefit fraud offenders.
Benefit fraud in the UK costs an estimated £2 billion per year, and is paid for out of public funds.
We believe that this money could be better used to improve or fund vital services for local residents.
You can help!
Following the successful launch of the anti-fraud hotline service in 2002 we have developed this site to improve your access to our Investigation Team. Please give as much information as you can to help us fight the fraudsters.
Some common examples of types of fraud that can occur :
- working whilst claiming to be unemployed
- not living at the address they claim from
- not declaring capital over £3000 held in accounts
- not fully declaring all income or household members
- subletting to others
- not declaring second properties
If you suspect someone of committing benefit fraud and want to tell us please call our anti-fraud hotline: 020 8753 1273. You do not have to leave your name and all information will be treated confidentially.
Alternatively, Email us: Benefitfraudlbhf@lbhf.gov.uk
You will receive an automated reply, confirming receipt of your information. All information will be sent straight to the Benefit Investigation Team, and will be treated with the strictest confidence.
Remember -
- Benefit Fraud is not a victimless crime.
- The more the Council loses to benefit fraud the less it has to spend on other services.
- The more the country loses to benefit fraud the higher your income tax.
- Don’t let them get away with it.
Please help us fight fraud. Thank you.
