Citizenships
Citizenship ceremonies
Since January 1, 2004 people gaining British citizenship have been obliged to attend a ceremony
This is intended to give added significance to the acquisition of citizenship. Group Citizenship ceremonies provide an occasion for people to celebrate the event with their family and friends and the ceremonies take place in Fulham Town Hall.
During the ceremony each applicant will either swear an oath of allegiance or make an affirmation of allegiance to the Crown, and will also make a pledge of commitment to the United Kingdom. It is at this point that citizenship is conferred.
As part of the ceremony each new British citizen will be then be presented with their Citizenship Certificate and will be invited to sign the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham's Citizenship Register.
Once an application to the Home Office for British citizenship has been approved, the applicant will receive a notification letter from the Home Office advising them to contact the Citizenship Office which is based in Fulham Town Hall. Arrangements to attend a Citizenship ceremony can then be made. The ceremony must take place within three months of an application being approved.
Should you prefer to have an individual citizenship ceremony this can be arranged. There is a fee payable for an individual ceremony. Further details can be obtained from the Citizenship Office.
The Citizenship Office at Fulham Town Hall can be contacted on the following telephone numbers:
