Decent neighbourhoods

H&F Council outlines how it would like to see the borough develop in the next 20 years.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is working hard to deliver high quality value for money services, a cleaner, safer borough... and a borough where all residents have a better chance to get on in life.

H&F remains a borough of economic contrasts. Around one in five households earn more than £60,000, while one in five live on less than £20,000 a year. Through the Decent Homes programme, millions of pounds of Government money is being spent on short term improvements to council housing. H&F Council is now setting out a much longer-term vision to improve the living environment.

Our Decent Neighbourhoods programme is designed to attract significant investment in five key areas of the borough for the benefit of local residents. In other areas of the borough, development will still take place but the priority will be to maintain the quality, scale and character of the locality, especially in conservation areas.

As part of our Decent Neighbourhoods programme, we want to break down the barriers that lead to concentrations of deprivation, unemployment and lack of hope by:

Blue bullet Creating more local job opportunities

Blue bullet Ensuring we have mixed income communities with different types of housing

Blue bullet Helping people onto the property ladder through low cost home ownership

Blue bullet Improving transport, public spaces and communal areas

And:

Blue bullet Where new development takes place we want street-style layouts instead of inward-looking estates

The Local Development Framework

The council's vision for Decent Neighbourhoods is included in an important planning consultation document called the Local Development Framework Core Strategy Options. Once agreed, the document will set out the council’s planning policy and guide future development.
