South Fulham Riverside
Decent Neighbourhood Programme
Hammersmith & Fulham riverside has changed considerably over the years as wharves have given way to residential and mixed use development, yet there is still scope for high quality development on underused sites. There are three safeguarded wharves with only Comleys Wharf still in use. Hurlingham Wharf has not been used for 13 years and Swedish Wharf, although still in use as an oil storage depot, no longer uses the river for transport.
The council’s preferred way forward is to:
Open the riverside up to the public with a mixture of residential and leisure use to create areas of interest, with the continuation of the riverside walk
Ensure there is a very high standard of urban design - especially on the riverside
Withdraw the safeguarding of wharves which is no longer appropriate.
