Youth offending - reparation orders

Reparation scheme

The reparation scheme involves young people who have committed a crime, taking responsibility for, and amending the damage that their offence has caused. This is through reparation either to the victim of the crime, or the wider community.

What does the scheme aim to do?
We aim to:

  • organise reparative activities based on young people’s needs and capabilities, the nature of their offence, and the victim’s wishes.
  • directly involve the victim in a number of ways, including:
  1. a letter of apology from the young person
  2. taking part in a mediation process with the young person. This is a carefully prepared and managed process.

Alternatively, the victim can pass on their views to the young person without needing to meet them.
receiving repairs from the young person for harm caused. For example, painting their fence, or working in the community.
