Volunteering

The Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteer Centre (HFVC) promotes and develops voluntary work in the borough. It runs a number of volunteering schemes that benefit both the community and the volunteers themselves:

1. The core volunteering project encourages local individuals and businesses to help worthy causes in the community, and to meet new people and gain new experiences in the process.

2. The people into employment, training and education project (PETE) helps local unemployed people to find work placements and gain the experience and skills they need to move into full-time work. HFVC staff help the volunteers with their job search and prepare them for interviews.

3. The Active Citizens scheme provides local residents with the training, skills and confidence they need to participate fully in the community. Participants might go on to be a trustee or committee member for a local charity or organisation, or set up their own community group.

4. The youth volunteering schemes offer young people aged 16-24 the opportunity to build on their interests and gain skills, experience and accreditation. Activities include everything from sports coaching to hospital visits and event organising to the befriending of young refugees and asylum seekers.
