Street wardens
Who are the street wardens?
The street warden team is made up of 7 street wardens, including the manager and supervisor. The street wardens team was created in March 2002 as part of the borough’s Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership. As the team were previously based in a police station, close links have been developed with the police and community support officers.
Where the street wardens patrol:
Originally the street wardens patrolled on the Shepherds Bush Green area. Now the team patrol in additional areas in Hammersmith as well.
The main aims of the street warden scheme are:
- To deter crime
- Reduce the fear of crime
- To improve the environment
What the street wardens do:
- Undertake high visibility patrols seven days a week
- Deal with anti-social behaviour, abandoned vehicles, graffiti, damage to street furniture, fly tipping, vandalism and act as professional witnesses
- Engage with community groups and run youth projects
- Attend community and residents meetings
- Provide information on crime prevention and personal safety
- Take an active role in implementation of the borough-wide controlled drinking area
What the street wardens don't do:
- Get involved in physical conflicts that may arise; however they will call the police
