Social services sensory impairment team
We are a team of specialist workers who provide services to people who are deaf or hard or hearing or who have a visual impairment. We also provide services for people who have both hearing and sight loss.
What help is available?
The type and amount of help varies from person to person. For this reason, an assessment is carried out before arranging services. This assessment can be carried out using BSL or SSE.
Following assessment, the following are examples of the type of support than may be available:
- information about services and activities available locally
- equipment to help you manage at home
- referral to social workers or other services, including local voluntary groups, for help with practical and social problems
- advice and practical support with getting out and about
What equipment is available?
There are a number of specialist aids available on loan from social services. These include:
For people with hearing loss
- minicoms
- flashing light doorbells
- vibrating pager systems
For people with visual impairments
- talking books
- liquid level indicators
- writing frames
