What does the Night Time Environmental Protection Service do?
We respond to over 4,500 complaints a year concerning noise and nuisance.
We aim to respond to 95% of calls within 60 minutes and 80% of calls within 45 minutes.
We also comment on planning and licensing applications in relation to pollution matters. Furthermore we carry out monitoring and inspection in the following service areas:-
We carry out inspections of ‘low risk’ food businesses in the borough to ensure conditions are satisfactory and that food sold to the public is safe and properly described on its label.
We also investigate complaints relating to Food Safety matters, when there is an imminent risk to consumers, and reports of food poisoning and other notifications of infectious diseases, when there is an imminent risk to the public.
We investigate reports of accidents at work that involve staff or the general public, when there is an imminent danger, and complaints relating to health and safety matters, when there is an imminent risk to employees or public.
We undertake routine monitoring and inspection of licensed premises in the borough.
What are the hours of operation?
Our hours of operation are outside of normal hours and are shown below.
The service is available 363 days a year. It can be broken down into two functions:
• Night Time Environmental Protection
363 nights of the year (No service Christmas Day or Boxing Day).
1st April – 31st Oct
7 days 1700hrs – 0600hrs
1st Nov – 31st March
Mon – Wed 1700hrs – 0230hrs
Thurs – Sun 1700hrs – 0600hrs
• Weekend and Bank Holiday Environmental Protection
All weekends and Bank holidays except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
